Lottery Process Overview
We appreciate your interest in the Community Charter School of Paterson and look forward to the possibility of welcoming your family to our community.
Why We Hold a Lottery
When a charter school receives more applications than available seats for the next school year, a lottery is conducted. This process applies to all grades, and only applications submitted during the open enrollment period are eligible for selection.
Transparency and Recording
The lottery is recorded to ensure transparency, and requests to view the recording can be made at any time.
How the Lottery Works
- Electronic Process: The lottery is conducted electronically to ensure fairness and accuracy. The software, developed by SchoolMint, has no affiliation with CCSP.
- Grade Order: The software randomly determines the grade order, driving the entire process.
- Enrollment Preference Groups: Students are selected based on enrollment preference groups, which are explained during the lottery.
Sibling Preference
- Sibling preference is granted to children with at least one common parent or legal guardian living in the same household at least 50% of the time.
- If a sibling is already enrolled, preference is granted before the lottery.
- During the lottery, preference may also be granted after a sibling is accepted. If a seat is unavailable, the student will be placed on the waiting list within the sibling preference group.
Acceptance and Registration
- If your child is accepted, check your email and text messages for next steps.
- You will receive instructions for completing online registration. Enrollment must be completed by the deadline provided in the acceptance email to secure your child’s seat.
- For families with a current student already enrolled, paperwork for the new student will not be available until at least 24 hours after the lottery.
Keeping Contact Information Updated
- Notify us of any changes to your address, email, or phone number to avoid losing contact.
- If we cannot reach you through your provided contact information, your child’s name may be removed from the list.
Waiting List Information
- If your child is placed on the waiting list, you will receive regular updates about their position.
- Openings may occur at any time, even after the school year begins.
- If you are no longer interested in attending CCSP, please let us know so we can offer the spot to another student.
Important Notes
- Once a child is removed from the waiting list, a new application must be submitted to reapply.
- Ensure your contact information remains current to avoid missing any critical updates.
